The Super Bowl Halftime show is one of the highlights of every single Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is a get together every single year as more than 100 million Americans tune in to watch the spectacular event. Another huge reason is the halftime show; the biggest names in music and entertainment perform for the halftime show and the 2019 Super Bowl is no different. Super Bowl LIII is taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on February 3rd. 106 million people tuned in to watch Justin Timberlake perform at the 2018 Super Bowl and this upcoming Super Bowl should have similar numbers.
Maroon 5 was tapped as the performers for the Super Bowl LII. The band has been together since 1994 and they have created an incredible career together with plenty of number one hits. Maroon 5 has not officially acknowledged that they are going to be the performers for Super Bowl LIII as the NFL has not officially announced it yet. But, the rumors are very solid that they will be the performers that the Super Bowl in Atlanta.
Many fans on Twitter were upset at the selection of Maroon 5 for the Super Bowl as they wanted a different artist that is representative of the city of Atlanta. Maroon 5 is from Los Angeles so fans are not happy with the selection of Maroon 5. Maroon 5 creates family-friendly music and a lot of fans were hoping that an Atlanta Super Bowl would mean a hip-hop artist or at least an artist from Atlanta such as Ludacris and OutKast.
Fans are waiting to see if anyone will be joining Maroon 5 for their performance in Atlanta. There are rumors that Cardi B will be performing with them for their hit song ‘Girls Like You’. Cardi B has risen to the top of the Hip-Hop and Pop charts over the past year and a half as she put out her first album with chart-topping songs like ‘I Like That’ and ‘Bodak Yellow’. Cardi B said back in 2017 that she would not perform the Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick but it remains to be seen if she will join Maroon 5. Other rumored performers are SZA, Kendrick Lamar, and Gwen Stefani.
When will the show kickoff?
The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 EST and generally the first half takes around 2 hours so you should expect the halftime show to start around 8:30 EST. The performance is generally around 15 minutes to make sure that you have all your snacks ready for the big performance. The headline artist usually performs a medley of all of their biggest hits so it is always an interesting performance. Maroon 5 will perform their first song or two by themselves and then a guest artist will join them on stage to perform alongside the band.
There has been some controversy over the halftime performer as it was reported that Rihanna was approached to perform but she turned down the NFL is support of Colin Kaepernick. There is a petition on Change.org for Maroon 5 to step down from their Super Bowl performance because of the way the NFL has treated Kaepernick. The petition already has tens of thousands of signatures but it is very unlikely that the petition will change anything.
